car tune up on post?
« on: December 15, 2007, 01:39:08 PM »
my 2005 nissan needs it's 60,000+ mile tune up and new tires.  i received coupons to get it done at the dealership but i'm wondering if i would be better off taking it down to post to have it done.  i know nothing about vehicles and i know if i go to the actual nissan dealership they will try and rip me off and tell me there is stuff wrong with the vehicle that HAS TO be fixed when it really doesnt.  my husband is deployed and i dont want to get walked all over being a woman going into a mechanic shop.  if they tell me something is wrong i wont be able to ask my husband and dont want to get ripped off.  any suggestions?

As long as you can show that genuine Nissan parts were installed on your car you can take it anywhere you want to or even do the work yourself. The warranty cannot be denied if the tune up is done on time  and using the Nissan parts. A receipt works fine for your parts proof. Keep it in the warranty records for your car.

For Tires I use Wal-Mart. With their warranty and practically every town has one you just can't go wrong.

actually dealerships dont work that way, they are expensive.  but they have so much business where they wont waste time making up junk.  they want to fix the problem then go on to the next customer.  plus they make more money selling cars then they do fixing them.    buy books on auto mechanics and educate yourself.

crystal look in your maintenance manual it will tell you what needs replaced for the miles on your car should only need oil,oil filter, air filter ,check rear end grease fill if need should be ok cheap if not, check break pad might be thin depends on how much you break they can check break while changing tires you can pick what tire suits you the best or you can get tires elsewhere,i always have my tires rotated every 12000 mi.I think you will find better service where you bought the car after all they do want to sell you your next car also, read the manual then tell them what (YOU !) want done stay in charge after all where ever you decide to have it done they do work for whoever is paying if they want to do more than the book if its been running fine then get a second look at it
