My car was so quite and smooth drive. But today I heard this weird noise when I shift it from park to Reverse or Drive, and vibrates too. if I turn the AC on the sound gets worse and the car vibrates. it never happened and when I told the Mechanic he said the mounts are old. I didn't buy his response. cause it was fine yesterday when I gave him the car. Please help me what could be the problem.

Thanks

sounds like the timing belt was put on a tooth off, if it is not exact, it can cause the engine to run poorly, does it have the same power it did before when you put the gas to the floor ?

its possible that the crank pully is not on all the way or is somehow crooked. have it checked it can cause damage if left too long.

good luck

Ok, so I am confused, did YOU do the work or did he? If you did the work, then I suggest you double check your timing following the manufacturer's procedure, or you check your firing order and that you have the correct plugs tot he correct wires.

If you took it to a shop and it didn't make the noise when you took it there, and now it does, take it to another and just tell them you have a problem with a noise and have them diagnose the issue. If they find a missing motor mount, then its time to involve lawyers, if they find incorrect timing due to improper install of the timing belt or ignition components, then have them fix and send the bill to the original shop.

The timing belt might have jumped a tooth if the tensioner was not set properly. To do a timing belt on that car, you have to pull the other belts, so maybe you did not tighten something up properly there. I hope it was not the Harmonic balancer pulley (Crank pulley). If that was not tightened properly, the key that holds it in place properly is now damaged and so is the crank and groove of the pulley.

I gotta agree with diablito..

If that tensioner was not done properly, it sounds like it jumped a tooth. I wouldnt drive it around except to go back to the guy who fixed it in the first place. turning the ac on and it is worse is because the ac creates drag (load) which on a poorly tuned motor or a motor the timing is not correct on would make it seem to run worse.

No matter what a call to that guy wont get anything accomplished, drive it there and do not go gearheading there. baby it, if it is a bad tenstioner or improperly installed, then driving it hard could cause it to skip again.
