i drive a 1999 mazda protege and wish to add a ecu chipto my car. will it better performance and efficency? if yes then by how much.

the factory calibrates you car on 87 octane, a chip advances the timing an fuel curve to accommodate better fuel and performance add ons. if this is your first upgrade, dont waste your money. start with a k&n filter  and a cat back exhaust.

Your ecu monitors many different vital parts of your engine. One of its many functions is to monitor the workload on the engine and decides which is the best fuel map to use. ecu upgrades can either be piggy back or stand alone systems. Piggy back systems are more popular because of their ease of use and ultimately their pricing. These systems do exactly what the factory ecu does, but they intercept the signal and modify the signal so the engine may think that the load is greater or lower forcing it to read a different part of the fuel map. this results with a change in your fuel curve and can greatly improve your cars performance while improving efficeny. it like killing two birds with one stone. check out my sources below or your local tuner shops
