'04 Toyota Camry.  Just got a full tune-up a week ago, then the check engine light popped up yesterday.  Any idea what this could mean?  I asked the guy at the gas station, and he just said "computer".  Could anyone shed some light on this, I'm bad with cars.  lol thanx.

The computer chip may need to be rest set or there may be some thing wrong with the car. I would have it checked by a repair shop to find out for sure, it's the onl way you will find out what is wrong.

Usually a sensor has went out, but I can promise you, you will be out of $40 minimum.  They come on almost a year into owning a brand new car.

Just another way to keep a broke person broke. I think it is a scam for inspection places because those lights come on no matter how new the car is and how well it is kept.

That is the warning light that tells you the computer on the car ran its selftest and found a problem. THE REAL problem is that there are literally hundreds of things that could go wrong but the computer only has that one warning light! You need a professional to scan the car get the code and then follow the proper diagnostic procedure to find the actual problem!

Go to your local auto parts store like napa, advance auto an ask them if they could hook up their computer scanner to your car. It will be free an they will get a code an they will look up the code an tell you what it is. They plug it in under your dash an turn the key on an it will scan the cars computer. Most likley it's something like a oxygen sensor. but you never know. have you noticed poorer gas milage.

The check engine light is a way for the computer in your car to tell you something went wrong electronically. You should be able to find a local auto parts(autozone, schucks) store that will pull the code for you for free.

The service engine now light is coming on bec the cars comp modual=ECM has detected a fault and it should have a fault code now stored in it.

Most important is if the light comes on then goes off shortly afterwards thats a soft code and you don't need to rush to get the car checked and worry about it, but if the light never goes off then its a hard code and you need to find out what codes are in ECM asap.

Phone around and you'll find theres places that with check for the codes or scan for codes free of charge.

Hope that helps and best of luck.
