« on: December 11, 2007, 02:11:37 AM »
my car was parked outside my freinds house while i was visiting, when another hit the side and scraped the paint and left a few dents i managed to get the registration as they drove off.

if they are insured how long before they get contacted by either the police or insurance company.

Thanks

you need to contact the police, and get a report. Then let them do the investigation... if they deem the other car was involved,, they will get a citation and you can get their insurance for your repairs.... IF they have insurance... if not, law suit,,,

That's called hit and run, and it is against the law!  It's good that you got their license plate number, they probably will be taken to jail!!  Unfortunately, they probably took off, because they don't have any insurance!  It happens all the time!  If you are insured, your insurance company will probably take care of the damages!!  Good luck to you!!

Hit and Run is a criminal offense.  Without injuries to a person, it is a misdemeanor.  With an injury to a person, it is a felony.

The police should be able to quickly follow-up and find the driver.  In the meantime, get a copy of the police report and make a claim with your insurance company.

Your comprehensive coverage and/or uninsured motorists' coverage should settle the damages for you.  If you don't have these coverages, then you had better hope that the police find the registered owner and/or driver of the vehicle and that they have insurance.

Good luck!

Silly buggers, it depends on the police but in the western world, if contacted straight away, it is guaranteed within 24 hours, this is because the police will want to see if there was alcohol involved. Im sure if they haven't contacted you they are about to but that they have contacted this idiot already.

Once the police have ruled on the accident the insurance company will give you immdeiate responce within 48 hours so you can get you car fixed and will sort you out for the cost of any rentals.

If you called right away, hopefully the cops found them.

However, when people flee an accident scene it's often because they either have warrants, they have no insurance, or they were under the influence of something.

They probably hid the car right away and they will wait to come out of hiding until they sober up.
