1992 Jeep XJ Engine rebuild cost.?

I just bought my first jeep as a work suv (spend 12plus hours in car at a time) Anyway, What would be a fair price for a motor rebuild & tuning (if they need them, im a rotary guy, i dont know) Appriciate any feedback! Hit me up with your rotary/mazda problems!!

You can usually find a rebuilt 4.0 for around $1k.  Go that route and trade in the old engine.  If you have time, upgrade the engine to a 4.0 out of a 99 and up.  These are more efficient and more powerful engines and will give you less grief.
