$145 Million Residence Hall Developed by University Student Living on the Glassboro Campus of Rowan University Now Home to 1,415 Underclassmen
Executives of The Michaels Organization along with University officials, students, and city and community leaders gathered at the campus of Rowan University today to celebrate the grand opening of Holly Pointe Commons. The new $145 million residential complex located on the eastern tip of the Glassboro campus was developed in record time by University Student Living, the comprehensive student housing company of The Michaels Organization.
“All design and construction was accomplished within 18 months from the date we were first awarded the project, to opening the doors for students to move-in,” said Joseph Coyle, president of University Student Living. “Holly Pointe Commons is a textbook example of how the University, city government, and private industry can work together to achieve something great for students, the campus, and the surrounding community,” Coyle said.
Sitting on eight acres that front Rowan Boulevard, Holly Pointe Commons is a dramatic gateway to the campus. The 303,000 square-foot complex, with its distinctive serpentine-shaped design, offers 773 units in two buildings connected by a pedestrian bridge. There is also a 550-seat dining hall, a Glassworks Eatery, a BB C-store, and a grab-and-go cafe. Standing 75 feet high, the exterior facade is constructed of metal panels with large windows throughout. Community lounges areas feature floor-to-ceiling glass.
“The complex has a progressive, forward-thinking design that speaks to who we are as a University,” said Richard Jones, Rowan University’s Vice President for Student Life and Dean of Students.
Designed by Erdy McHenry Architecture of Philadelphia, Holly Point Commons features pods that include a mix of student bedrooms, lounge and study spaces, gender-inclusive bathrooms, and laundry rooms. The pods provide spaces to help students build a sense of community in the hall. Most students living there, including 649 freshmen and 755 sophomores and transfer students moved in on August 27 and 28.
Other key partners in the project include Provident Resources Group, Inc., the non-profit owner of the improvements, Torcon, Inc., which served as the general contractor, and RBC which was the financial advisor and underwriter.
