On August 1, 2017 Courtyard Apartments at Riverside hosted a National Night Out. The National Night Out is a community building night that started in 1984 in order to build better relationships between neighbors and law enforcement. The purpose of this event is to bring everyone together in a positive and fun setting.
Courtyard Apartments’ Night Out was attended by First District Councilman, Mark Squilla; Philadelphia’s Mayor, Jim Kenney; District Police Captain, Frank Milillo; resident leaders, and MDC executives and IRM staff. There were tons of activities for guests to participate in such as face painting, games, bouncy houses, and tons of fun props to take pictures with.
Courtyard Apartments at Riverside are in the midst of a massive renovation. Courtyard consists of 165 senior unit high-rise apartments and 305 modern low-rise homes. The rehabilitation activities at the senior tower will include: exterior facade repairs, roofing and window repairs and replacements, reconstruction or replacement of the elevators as well as heating and ventilation system upgrades. Kitchens and baths will also be upgraded with new counters, fixtures and vanities. The townhouses will be similarly upgraded.
Courtyard at Riverview was built starting in 1999 following demolition of the Southwark public housing development. The original housing dated back to 1963.
