138 Students Residing at Student Living Communities Owned or Managed by The Michaels Organization Receive Scholarships
The Michaels Organization Educational Foundation, a non-profit affiliate of The Michaels Organization, has awarded a total of $314,000 in educational funds to residents of Michaels’ on- and off-campus student living communities. Earlier this year, a record-breaking $2.1 million was awarded to residents in Michaels-owned and managed affordable and military communities. With both resident scholarship programs complete for the year, the Foundation has now awarded a total of $2,449,500 to 399 students for the 2024/2025 academic year.
“At Michaels, we strongly believe education is an investment in our residents’ futures,” said Joe Coyle, president of Michaels Student Living. “It’s an honor to play a role in that future and to ensure our residents have opportunities to better themselves, expand their horizons, and open the door to new opportunities.”
This year’s 138 student living scholars represent a distinguished group of individuals with a variety of talents and interests from 13 of Michaels’ student living communities throughout the country. From Park West in College Station, TX, Scholar Iman Lalani, who started her own at-home bakery at just 15 years old, will use her award to continue her degree in Business Management at Texas A&M University. At Orchard Park in Davis, CA, Scholar Anh Tuan Hoang Nguyen, a Vietnamese immigrant who is blind, is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in biological chemistry at the University of California Davis and plans to be a role model for other blind individuals and those experiencing language barriers in school through research and teaching as a biochemist.
For 33 years, The Michaels Organization Educational Foundation has assisted residents in pursuing higher education at colleges, universities, or trade/professional schools.
All Educational Foundation funds are raised through voluntary contributions by companies and private individuals throughout The Michaels Organization’s business network. All donations are then matched $2 for every $1 by The Michaels Organization’s founder and chairman, Michael Levitt and his wife, Pat Levitt.
Scholarships are awarded annually and students may reapply each year of their education for continuing grants. In total, the Foundation has now awarded over $16 million to residents since its inception in 1991.
