Michaels, One80 Place Celebrates Grand Opening of 573 Meeting Street, Expanding Affordable Housing and Shelter Services in Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C. (June 26, 2026) — Today, The Michaels Organization, along with its development partners One80 Place and Spandrel Development, celebrated the grand opening and ribbon cutting of 573 Meeting Street, a transformative new development designed to expand housing opportunities and support for individuals and families experiencing homelessness in the Lowcountry. It represents a first-of-its-kind investment in Charleston, bringing together affordable housing, emergency shelter, and supportive services within a single development.

The six-story mixed-use building includes 50 studio apartments, 16 one-bedroom apartments, four two-bedroom apartments for low to zero income residents, and a new Family Center featuring 18 suites with 56 emergency shelter beds. The Family Center will double One80 Place’s capacity to serve women and families experiencing homelessness. Apartment residents will have access to on-site supportive services, including case management, healthcare, legal services, employment support, and other resources designed to help them achieve long-term stability.

“The opening of 573 Meeting Street symbolizes One80 Place’s continued belief that housing is the only true way to end homelessness,” said Stacey Denaux, Chief Executive Officer of One80 Place. “Many of the people moving into these apartments have endured life on the streets and have shown incredible resilience and commitment to turning their lives around. We are honored to walk alongside our clients on their journeys toward permanent housing.”

For Gwen, one of the first residents to move into 573 Meeting Street, the opportunity represents a fresh start after years of housing instability. “There were times when it felt like I was drowning,” Gwen said. “Getting into 573 Meeting Street felt like finally coming up for air.”

Envisioned since 2017, a collaborative partnership of public, private, and nonprofit organizations is bringing the $44 million development to life. Key partners driving this project include the City of Charleston, Charleston County, The Housing Authority of the City of Charleston, The CLIMB Fund, South Carolina Housing and Lowcountry philanthropists.

“True community transformation requires everyone coming together. We develop housing across the country, and this is truly one of our most successful developments to date. We’ve built a national blueprint for ending homelessness through high-quality housing and life-changing support,” said Jonathan Lubonski, Executive Vice President of The Michaels Organization.

“Watching the first residents move into 573 Meeting Street and begin a new chapter filled with opportunity and possibility is both humbling and inspiring,” said Ian Levine, Co-Founder of Spandrel Development Partners.
