Michaels Announced As Finalist For Two Nahb Pillar Awards

National Awards Honor the Multifamily Industry’s Best Work of the Year
The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) has announced that The Michaels Organization, a national leader in residential development with full-service capabilities in development, management, finance and construction, has been named a finalist for the finalists for its 2020 Multifamily Pillars of the Industry Awards, Michaels is a finalist in two categories -- Multifamily Development Firm of the Year and Best Affordable Development -- for the awards that honor the best firms and most creative work in multifamily housing.
Jordan Downs, Michaels’ redevelopment of an outdated 1950s-era low-rise public housing development in the Watts neighborhood of Los Angeles, is a finalist in the Best Affordable Development (Over 100 Units). The first two residential phases of the comprehensive neighborhood revitalization of Jordan Downs, which Michaels is doing in partnership with the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles and BRIDGE Housing, has been honored with several awards this year, including Best Public Housing Redevelopment by Affordable Housing Finance magazine and Best Transformative Community Development by SCANPH. .
Along with Best Affordable Development, Michaels is also a finalist for the Pillars' Multifamily Development Firm of the Year. Development firm entries are evaluated on the overall quality of projects that have been developed in the previous three years; innovative development strategies and practices; ability to overcome obstacles; and success in achieving the company’s vision and goals. Michaels has surpassed this criteria with a successful couple of years with achievements that demonstrate dedication and hard work. Despite the Global Pandemic, Michaels closed 11 new development deals in 2019, opened 31 new properties, and welcomed more than 12,500 new residents to its communities.
The recognition by NAHB comes at the tailend of a successful awards season for Michaels, with over 14 national and regional wins for the organization as a whole. This is the second time NAHB has recognized Michaels as a finalist for Development Firm of the Year, an award Michaels won in 2010. Last year, Michaels was named NAHB’s Property Management Firm of the Year.
The Multifamily Pillars of the Industry Awards highlight creative development concepts, innovative financing strategies, great design, and superior management and marketing in the apartment and condo marketplace. The Pillars awards are held in high esteem by top-level multifamily development companies, management firms and experts in the field.
Winners will be announced during an all-virtual awards ceremony. Michaels is incredibly proud to be a part of this awards process during a time where lifting lives and serving communities is more important than ever.
