Michaels Begins Stanley Holmes Village Revitalization With Choice Neighborhoods Planning Grant

FILED TO: What's New

The Michaels Organization joined residents of Stanley S. Holmes Village and local community leaders on Saturday, June 4th to celebrate the commencement of the Choice Neighborhoods Planning effort in the Westside Neighborhood of Atlantic City, NJ.

With the help of HUD's Choice Neighborhoods program, Michaels will transform Stanley S. Holmes Village – the oldest affordable housing community in the state of New Jersey – into a strong, sustainable, and inclusive community for existing and new residents.

Focused on three main aspects – housing, neighborhood, and people – the revitalization of Stanley Holmes will provide residents with: housing that is well-managed and fits the needs of the surrounding community; a neighborhood that welcomes the necessary amenities and assets needed in the community; and improved outcomes for the people who live there in regard to income and employment, health, and education.

In order to put this plan into action, Michaels turned to residents to learn exactly what it is they want out of their community. Residents were asked for input on what they want their homes to look like, what types of homes they want, what features they should have, and more, in order to get specific ideas of what type of housing residents want to call their home.

Michaels will also continue to work closely with the Atlantic City police department, school board, Housing Authority, and additional local partners to determine what kind of infrastructure programs will be used to help improve the neighborhood and to learn more about empowerment programs to help residents in this journey.
