The Michaels Organization, in partnership with the City and County of Honolulu and the State of Hawaii, recently hosted a ceremonial topping off at Halewai’olu Senior Residences – Michaels’ newest, affordable senior rental community located in Honolulu’s Chinatown.

The ceremony, which was attended by Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi as well as executives from The Michaels Organization, marked the last steel beam being raised on the 17-story high-rise community, as well as an opportunity to thank all of the local skilled tradesmen involved in the construction of the $93.3 million development.

“We are grateful to all the city, county and state officials as well as to all the neighborhood stakeholders who have supported this development,” said Milton Pratt, Executive Vice President of Development for The Michaels Organization. “We are thrilled that in the coming months we will be ready to welcome residents to this beautiful, holistic affordable community with high-quality amenities and a modern sense of community.”

Halewai’olu Senior Residences, designed by WRNS Studio, offers 155 one- and two-bedroom apartments for local seniors, aged 62 and older.

The complex will serve as a gathering place for kupuna and will feature a courtyard, retail space, recreation deck, laundry room, community garden, and dog park. Other amenities will include a social activities center, social services offices, property management offices, storage, a computer room, and a mailroom.

The complex is also located close to public transportation and has vehicle and bicycle parking stalls.

Construction on Halewai’olu Senior Residences is expected to be completed in the late summer, with residents expected to move in by September.
