New Community, Named for Influential Civil Rights Activists and Community Organizers, Provides 80 Affordable Apartments on 5-Acre Campus
Las Vegas, NV, July 16, 2026 — Today, the Southern Nevada Regional Housing Authority (SNRHA), in partnership with The Michaels Organization, a national leader in residential real estate, hosted a grand opening ceremony for Beals-Henderson Pointe, a new affordable housing community located at 5901 Duncan Dr.
The new community, which spans more than five acres, features 80 apartments in six, two-story garden-style buildings and a community clubhouse. Apartments are available in one-, two-, three-, and four-bedroom layouts. Amenities include a playground, gas and charcoal barbecue stations, dog park, basketball court, turf park, shade areas, lounge seats, a pavilion and covered parking. The community serves households earning between 30 and 80 percent of Area Median Income (AMI) and is already fully occupied.
Beals-Henderson Pointe was developed by The Michaels Organization in partnership with SNRHA. Funding for the community includes private equity raised through the sale of federal Low-Income Housing Tax credits and American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding administered through the Home Means Nevada Initiative (HMNI).
“The confluence of federal and state funding made this community a reality,” said Lewis Jordan, Executive Director, SNRHA. “We are indebted to Gov. Lombardo and his team for their vision in creating the HMNI program, and the influx of significant funding from the federal government continues to be transformative. “
“The Michaels Organization is a tremendous partner to the SNRHA, bringing significant expertise and experience as a prolific developer of affordable housing nationwide,” Lewis continued. “The mission of the Southern Nevada Regional Housing Authority is to provide safe and affordable housing that fosters independence, self-sufficiency, and community pride. Beals-Henderson Pointe stands as a magnificent example of a place that is accomplishing all those goals. The pride of its first residents in their beautiful new community is evident and palpable.”
Beals and Henderson were influential Las Vegas community organizers and civil rights leaders whose courage and legacy produced lasting labor reform and strengthened community self-sufficiency. Their activism reshaped opportunity for Black families in Southern Nevada. Raised in the Historic Westside, both emerged as key organizers of the landmark 1970 Storming Caesars Palace protest, which challenged discriminatory hiring practices and helped open access to union jobs and lasting career pathways.
Beals dedicated her life to racial justice, housing equality and economic opportunity while Henderson advanced community empowerment through welfare rights advocacy and leadership with Operation Life. The families of both Beals and Henderson were on hand at the grand opening ceremony, which included tributes to both women, honoring the lasting impact they made on Southern Nevada.
According to City of Las Vegas Mayor Shelley Berkley, affordable housing continues to be one of the city’s most pressing needs. “Housing is foundational to the wellbeing of individuals, families and community,” said Berkley. “Beals-Henderson Pointe is proof positive of a public-private partnership that has created a high-quality affordable community that looks and lives on par with a market-rate development. Residents are proud to call Beals-Henderson home, and we are proud to welcome this new community to our city.”
“We are grateful for the opportunity to become part of this community and to work in partnership with such a forward-thinking Housing Authority, dedicated to bringing modern, high-quality and sustainable housing to the residents of Las Vegas,” said Cody Roskelley, Regional Vice President of The Michaels Organization. “It is especially meaningful to us that the community’s name will be an ongoing tribute to these civic heroes, and we look forward to being a part of this community for years to come.”
