Michaels and the City of Syracuse Break Ground on The Rosie

New Multifamily Development Will Bring 286 Apartment Homes in Walking Distance to Syracuse University

Camden, NJ, — June 16, 2025The Michaels Organization has broken ground on a new amenity-rich multifamily community located within walking distance of Syracuse University, having successfully achieved a financial closing on the development on May 22.

Known as The Rosie, the development will feature 286 apartments in studio, one- and two-bedroom layouts, along with a host of amenities. The development borders Syracuse University, a private global research University with a growing enrollment. It will be within driving distance of a new $100 billion mega-complex of computer chip plants that Micron Technologies is developing in nearby Clay, New York.

“This is a growing market that needs more housing,” said Michael Flanagan, The Michaels Organization’s Chief Investment Officer, who also has primary responsibility for Development. “We are grateful for the support of the city and state for this development and are proud to continue delivering high-quality housing to the Syracuse community.”

This is Michaels’ second development in Syracuse. In 2018, Michaels developed one of Syracuse’s premier off-campus student living communities, which is currently 100 percent occupied. Michaels will provide property and asset management services to The Rosie, once it’s completed.

The Rosie is designed as 5 stories of wood-framed residential housing, which will sit on a one-story parking podium. Amenities include a rooftop deck, BBQs, firepits, a clubroom, a fitness center, and a study/work lounge. The Rosie will also offer 1,000 square feet of retail space.

The development benefited from the support of the Syracuse Industrial Development Agency.  Passero Associates and CHA Consulting provided Architecture and Engineering Services. Hueber Breuer Construction will serve as the General Contractor. Construction Financing has been provided by Mid Penn Bank and Five Star Bank.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held by the City of Syracuse on June 17. Construction is expected to be completed by June 2027.
