Michaels Student Living Scholarship Program Is Open for Applications

Student residents are welcome to apply for scholarship grants for the 2020-2021 academic year

August 27. Camden, NJ– The Michaels Organization Educational Foundation has announced that its annual college scholarship program is now open for residents living in Student Living communities owned or managed by The Michaels Organization.

The applications are now available online. Students in academic good standing at a community college, college, university or trade/technical school, and residing at an apartment community that Michaels Student Living owns or manages, are encouraged to apply. The scholarship funds, which range from $2,000 to $3,500 per student, can be used toward helping pay for a student’s 2020-2021 school year costs.

The selection committee is looking to truly get to know a candidate on a personal level. They will not only be assessing their academic performance or financial need, but will be seriously considering their character and dedication to their chosen field of study. Michaels Scholars have always represented a diverse group of individuals with unique backgrounds and interests, and the program is committed to giving back to those who are investing in their futures.

“At Michaels, we understand the importance of a good education; it changes the lives of people who then go on to change the world.” said John O’Donnell, CEO of The Michaels Organization. “With this goal in mind, we’re proud to sponsor this scholarship program for the  residents in our Student Living communities, particularly in these challenging times. We hope that, through financial support and by providing the ideal living-learning environment, we can help students on their journey to higher education.”

Applications for the scholarship are due on October 15, 2020 and all applicants will be notified during the month of November of their outcome status. Scholarship checks payable to their post-secondary institutions will then be mailed in December.

The Student Living program had a record number of recipients in 2019, who collectively received almost $26,000 in scholarships. Recognizing the increased need for aid during the 2020 pandemic, Michaels has endeavored in the past few months to support its residents in these unprecedented times. Foundation scholarships awarded to residents of Michaels affordable and military communities were announced in July totalling more than $1.2 million.

The Michaels Educational Foundation’s mission is built on the belief that Michaels’ residential communities are the launching pads for people’s next chapter in their lives. This belief, and Michaels’ commitment to its residents, has enabled the program to donate $9 million in scholarships to its residents since the foundation was started in 1991.
