FILED TO: What's New

The Michaels Organization's Vice President of Administration and Compliance Dolly Dube and Vice President of Development Nick Cangelosi were recently joined by Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small Sr. and Atlantic City Housing Authority Board Chair Stephanie Marshall to congratulate and celebrate the completion of Michaels’ Youth Training Program.

Through the 12-week program, 8 students in Atlantic City were given the opportunity to gain knowledge and hands-on training in all aspects of real estate construction including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and roofing at Buzby Homes, the affordable housing community being redeveloped by Michaels in partnership with the Atlantic City Housing Authority (ACHA). Additionally, students also received coaching sessions from Michaels executives and project managers on interpersonal and professional skills.

Now officially graduated from the program, students hold construction certifications and credentials to build their resumes such as the OSHA-10 certification, Fall Protection, Forklift, CPR, AED, and Flag certifications. With these certifications, graduates will be able to work everything from heavy highway jobs to residential, all while ensuring safety on the job.

After completing the program, five graduates have already landed jobs - including three at Michaels - two on the Buzby Homes redevelopment and one at the Camden HQ, while others have earned internships, one has a handful of interviews lined up as he prepares to move to a different state, and another has earned a scholarship from Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ.
