The Michaels Organization, Army Officials Celebrate Groundbreaking of Young Village at Fort Belvoir

New Neighborhood Will Feature 200 Townhomes for Army Officer Housing

Ft Belvoir, VA, March 5, 2026 – David H. Dentino, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army for Installations, Housing and Partnerships (DASA IH&P), joined Col. David Stewart, Fort Belvoir Garrison Commander and executives of The Michaels Organization today for a ceremonial groundbreaking ceremony at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. The ceremony marks the start of Young Village, a neighborhood featuring 200 new homes being developed within the Villages at Belvoir

Our commitment to our Soldiers and Families is a cornerstone of our strength as an Army,” said DASA Dentino. Young Village at Fort Belvoir is a tangible representation of that commitment. These 200 homes will be an investment in our Soldiers, providing the quality of life and stability on the Homefront that is essential for mission readiness. This empowers our Soldiers to focus on their critical duties, knowing their families have a supportive and thriving environment to call home.”

Michaels has been a private-sector military housing partner for the Defense Department since 2004 and has been the owner/operator of the privatized family housing at Ft. Belvoir since 2021. The Construction of Young Village is part of Michaels’ Out-year development plan, and is the largest development of new housing on post since 2008.

Designed by Urban Practice, a leading architecture and design firm based in Camden, NJ, Young Village will feature 200 three-story attached townhouses, each with a first-floor two-car garage.

The three- and four-bedroom layouts and spacious 2,500+ square feet homes will emphasize comfort and functionality, offering high-quality finishes throughout, beautifully appointed kitchens, and outdoor balconies. The neighborhood will also feature community amenities, including play spaces, a dog park, and walking paths.

“Today is more than just a groundbreaking; it’s a promise kept to our service members and their families. We are not just turning dirt; this begins the foundation for 200 new homes, which represents our unwavering Army commitment to People First,” said Col. Stewart. “A quality home is the bedrock upon which our Soldiers’ readiness is built. It is a place for rest, family, and peace of mind. When we boost the quality of life, we directly support our sustainment mission, ensuring our warfighters can focus on their critical training and missions, knowing their families are well-cared for. A ready Soldier starts with a ready family, and a ready family starts at home.”

Young Village is named in tribute to Brigadier General Charles Young, a soldier, diplomat, and community leader, who overcame incredible obstacles to become a leading figure in the years after the Civil War when the United States emerged as a world power.

“We are extremely grateful to the Army for their continued partnership and for trusting us with the development of this new community,” said Zach Allen, Vice President of Investment Management for The Michaels Organization. “Young Village represents Michaels’ continued commitment to those who serve, and ensuring our military families have access to sustainable, high-quality housing for generations to come.”

The new Young Village neighborhood is in addition to the $500 million investment Michaels announced in 2024 to benefit its military housing portfolio, which includes new construction and renovations at multiple installations across the country.

CBG Building Company is serving as the general contractor for the new Young Village development, and Michaels Management will provide property management services. Construction is expected to be completed in September 2028.
