Camden, NJ, December 30, 2019 – A high school valedictorian now in the Honors Program at Rowan University and a student from Nigeria pursuing a doctorate in Biostatistics at Old Dominion University are among the 2019 recipients of scholarships bestowed by The Michaels Organization Educational Foundation through its program for residents of Michaels Student Living communities. With these latest awards, the total of scholarship awards to Michaels residents bestowed in 2019 well surpasses $1 million.

The Student Living awardees for the 2020 academic year represent a diversity of interests, aspirations, and fields of study from across the country.  This year, the 12 students selected reside at six properties owned and managed by The Michaels Organization or operated in partnership with a university, and attend six different universities.

“We are continually impressed by the character, capabilities and aspirations of these exceptional students,” states Joe Coyle, President of Michaels Student Living. “It is inspirational to see how they excel in their academic pursuits, as well as their dedication to improving the lives of others.”

The Michaels Student Living Scholarship Program, now in its  fourth year, extends invitations to residents of eligible Michaels Student living communities to apply for a scholarship, which are awarded annually. Residents must be matriculating, full time students attending a college, university or trade/professional institute. The criteria used to select recipients includes academic performance, character, financial need, and proficiency or potential proficiency in a chosen field of student. The grants are made payable to the higher education institution to be applied to the recipient’s school expenses.

The StudentLiving program had a record number of recipients in 2019, who collectively received almost $26,000 in scholarships. Earlier this year, the Foundation awarded more than $1 million in grants to residents of Michaels affordable and military living communities. Since its inception in 1991, The Michaels Organization has bestowed more than $8 million in college scholarships to residents of Michaels Communities.
