The Michaels Organization Educational Foundation, a non-profit affiliate of The Michaels Organization, has announced its latest scholarship awards for the 2022/2023 academic year, this time to residents living at Michaels’ on- and off-campus student living communities. The $137,000 in total awards bestowed to Michaels’ Student Living residents ups this year’s grand total to a record-breaking $1.6 million in scholarships awarded to Michaels residents.
Now in the program’s seventh year, the 2022 Michaels Student Living Scholars include students from colleges and universities across the country including Dartmouth College, Texas A&M University, University of California – Davis, and Syracuse University. Recipients include undergraduate and graduate students, PhD students, and those earning certificates, representing a wide range of majors and areas of expertise.
Gideon Kassa, a Michaels Scholar living at The Summit on Juniper, plans to use his award toward completing his PhD program in Engineering Studies from Dartmouth College in order to create an alternative power source to alleviate the hardships of people in his home country of Ethiopia. Scholar Christian Anguiano at Michaels’ Park West community will use his award to continue his studies in the Texas A & M ACHIEVE program – a comprehensive transition program (CTP) for young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. With his certificate in Interdisciplinary Studies, Christian hopes to work at an H-E-B Pharmacy, assisting people with receiving their prescriptions and medications.
“It’s thrilling to be able to announce these latest scholarships to our residents,” said John J. O’Donnell, Chief Executive Officer of The Michaels Organization, a national leader in residential real estate. “Our commitment to Lifting the Lives of our residents includes supporting their academic endeavors while offering housing solutions that create innovative living and learning environments at our student living communities.”
Over the last 31 years, the Michaels Educational Foundation has awarded more than $12 million in scholarships to Scholars residing at Michaels-owned and managed communities. Earlier this year, $1.5 million was awarded to residents living in Michaels’ affordable and military communities.
All Educational Foundation funds are raised through voluntary contributions by companies and private individuals throughout The Michaels Organization’s business network. All donations are then matched $2 for every $1 by The Michaels Organization’s founder and chairman, Michael Levitt and his wife, Pat Levitt.
