Residents of Michaels’ Military and Affordable Housing Communities are Encouraged to Apply for the 2021/2022 Academic Year

February 1st, Camden, NJ-- The Michaels Organization Educational Foundation has announced that its scholarship program for the 2021/2022 school year will open on February 3rd. The Foundation, a non-profit affiliate of The Michaels Organization, encourages residents of Michaels’ affordable and military housing communities to apply for this unique opportunity. The application can be found on The Michaels Organization Educational Foundation website

Since 1991, the Foundation has awarded more than $9 million in scholarships to residents of the housing communities that Michaels owns and manages. Every year, hundreds of Michaels Scholars from military and affordable properties are awarded funds that can be used toward higher education at any accredited college, university, or vocational training program in the country. All residents with a high school diploma or equivalent are eligible to apply. Scholarship Grants range from $2,000 to $10,000 per award and residents may reapply for scholarships each year of their undergraduate education.

“We are privileged to offer this opportunity to our residents and we hope that all of them consider taking advantage of furthering their education, with some of the burden of paying for that education taken care of by Michaels’ Foundation,” said John J. O’Donnell, Chief Executive Officer of The Michaels Organization.

The Michaels Organization is a national leader in residential real estate with full-service capabilities in Development, Construction, Finance and Construction and the largest private-sector owner of affordable housing in the country..

Last year the Foundation marked its 30th anniversary by awarding scholarships totaling more than $1.2 million, a record high for the program. The 273 Michaels Scholars who received scholarships last year included four senior residents who were awarded grants of $500 each to pursue continuing education classes.

Foundation funds are raised throughout the year and come from contributions made by companies and private individuals throughout Michaels’ business network. All donations are then matched $2 for every $1 by The Michaels Organization’s Founder and Chairman, Michael J. Levitt, and his wife, Pat Levitt.

The application can be found on The Michaels Organization Educational Foundation website. Completed applications should be mailed to: Dr. Bruce W. Johnson, The Michaels Organization Educational Foundation, P.O. Box 90708, Camden, NJ 08101. Unofficial transcripts will be accepted this year to accommodate the unique circumstances brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. All applications from residents of Michaels military and affordable living communities must be received by the Educational Foundation no later than April 15th. Awards will be announced in June 2021.

The application process for residents of Michaels’ Student Living communities will begin in October.
